Architectural Drawings by Michael Anderson
An exhibition of drawings by architectural illustrator and gallery member Michael Anderson will be shown in the Gateway Gallery Featured Artists space Jan 4 through Feb 8, 2009. All the drawings are from the artist's personal collection and have not been exhibited before. They were commissioned by architects and designers and depict a variety of projects including the renovation of the Coronado Ballroom, St. Louis, a Six Flags theme park ride in Gurnee, IL and an interstate highway extension in Reno, NV.
Anderson seeks to bring a high level of artistry to his commercial illustrations. He reveres the masters of line art from the golden age of illustration such as Charles Dana Gibson, Rockwell Kent, Franklin Booth and others. "Although the field of architectural illustration is a narrow one there are truly great artists and fascinating works to be found there. I am appreciative of  the work of the early practitioners such as Marion Mahony Griffin whose distinctive illustrations depicted the architecture of Frank LLoyd Wright with such style, and the great Hugh Ferris." states Anderson. "My work is influenced by current illustrators creating drawings that posses great precision as well as inspiring imagery."  The public is invited to an artist's reception to be held Sunday, Jan 18, 2009, 2-5pm at Gateway Gallery, 7921 Forsyth Blvd., Clayton, MO

Michael Anderson is a member of the American Society of Architectural Illustrators.
