Sheldon has exhibited his paintings and drawings at
the Gateway Gallery since it opened and now in its sixth year of business.
His passion for painting began in 2001 after viewing the Ellsworth Kelly/Henri
Matisse plant drawing exhibit at the St. Louis Art Museum. He began painting
large scale plant forms that featured bright colors and suggestions of
motion. Though always referring to nature his paintings eventually moved
toward pure abstraction. In recent years he has been working on a large
cycle of colorful paintings he calls Circle Logic.
In 2008 he painted a series of twenty plein air watercolors in Florence,
Italy and completed his studies for a Master of Arts degree at Fontbonne
University, St. Louis. Sheldon was a participant in the 2009 Open Studios
event sponsored by the Saint Louis Contemporary Art Museum.
